CONTUR GmbH - Training, Coaching & Consulting

Hello,

after a turbulent 2009 we turn towards 2010; cautious but optimistic. According to the DIW (German Institute for Economic Research) the national economy picked up considerably in the 3rd quarter of the year (the GNP increased by 0.8% compared to the 2nd quarter).

However, we can all feel the aftershock of the crisis; there is a lasting uncertainty among the population concerning moral quality of the market economy.

Professor Dr. Karl Homann, economist and ethicist, sees the economy in a deep crisis regarding public acceptance. He calls upon executive managements to enter into dialog with their staff (see topic 1 herein).

These topics continuously gain weight in the discussions with our customers. We would appreciate to hear your opinion as well.

We wish you all the best for the Christmas Season and a Happy New Year!

Yours,
Volker Maschmeyer

Business-Ethics – responsible action as management task

Appreciation of executive management in the banking sector and companies as well as of politicians has hit a low due to the economic and financial crisis.

The majority of the population mistrusts a market economy out of moral rather than economic concerns. Such moral questions cannot be answered solely with economic rationality.

Operative managers are often torn between company values and CSR-reports on the one hand and factual, empirical frames of action for their decision making (competitors, budget limits, technological equipment) on the other hand.

Ethical answers i.e. responsible action cannot be found dissociated from those social and economic restrictions; they require an integration of moral ideals and empirical conditions and need to be communicated creditably.

We would be happy to discuss that issue with you and your colleagues!

" Blue Ocean Strategy“

W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne show that it is worthwhile seeking blue oceans where competitive fights are not yet coloring the water in red. It is possible to set the rules of the market yourself! To follow the concept of these two INSEAD professors you need some creativity and lots of  consistency. Classic present for Christmas.
