“I'm sick of hearing this – a record low, an all-time low and then an even worse all-time low!” Those were the words of famous German soccer trainer Rudi Völler, ranting about sports journalists; but you could be forgiven for mistaking it for a response to the latest business news. Talking to you, I'm well aware of how the daily news reports of cancelled orders, terminations, bankruptcies, plummeting stock values etc. are getting everybody down.
However, the “ifo Business Climate Index” has rated the outlook for the coming six months as positive for the fifth time in a row now, and even mid-sized companies are assessing their prospects for 2009 as markedly more positive. Why? Perhaps the mid-sized players are more flexible, better able to adjust to changes in general circumstances, and are making use of the pressure to get their own cost structures in order, to streamline their processes, form new teams, train employees – so they can emerge from the crisis even stronger than they were going into it.
We have the strategies and the experience to meet these challenges with you. Let's focus together on the future – put us to the test!
Kindest regards, Volker Maschmeyer

Achieving success now with value creation projects
Radical departures from old ways of thinking are the order of the day, and many things that seemed hard and fast before can suddenly be changed. This is something we are seeing in many companies. The current market situation is having a polarizing effect – while some companies are locking into a kind of paralysis, the “winds of change” are blowing through others, with processes being transformed, new markets conquered; hope and curiosity booming. Simple cost cutting is not enough to take advantage of the opportunities opening up today. But how can a project be implemented now so that it will still be bearing fruit in 2014? more...

Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen: Glück kommt selten allein... (happiness doesn't happen by itself)
2009, Rowohlt Verlag GmbH, Reinbek bei Hamburg, ISBN 978-3-498-02997-5
Each of us is the architect of our own happiness. Alas, most of us don't know an A-frame from an architrave. And when we're nailing our happiness together, we're likely to hit ourselves on the thumb with the hammer. Unfortunately we often forget to laugh about it.
But when Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen applies his witty pen to the topic, the pain disappears. His positive psychology demonstrates that you can make your own happiness. Hirschhausen combines knowledge with humor, up-to-date research, time-honored wisdom and profundity, and thus gives us not only countless moments of laughter, but also many moments of insight.
At the moment, the book is only available in German but will be published in English soon.
