Even if the Association of the German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) is sounding an alarm and lamenting the loss of Germany’s supremacy as the world’s leading exporter, the existing decline in location costs as well as global investment strategies by investors will not reverse the globalisation trend, but rather accelerate it. The challenges for internationally operating companies are enormously complex and involve a large share of human resources development.
How can necessary knowledge and individual learning experiences within the company be made accessible to all locations – regardless of where they originate? How can talent be identified early on and developed internationally? Which competencies do (junior) executives need in order to be successful in other countries or in intercultural or virtual teams?
We make suggestions and provide solutions on this topic – have fun reading!
Warm regards, Volker Maschmeyer

Converting Team Diversity into an Asset and a Competitive Advantage
An Example from Romania
Many Western subsidiaries produce in Romanian cities and employ a local workforce, but being still in the start-up phase, the executive teams in the lead are very diverse from the point of view of the cultural background of their members. Therefore, adding to challenges of achieving quality and quantity targets, this situation generates even more obstacles to overcome. more…

“LEAD 2010i” – Developing executives across national borders
Managers from a few select companies complete 3 modules together:
LEAD Yourself, LEAD Teams and Projects, LEAD Business. The program is conducted by trainers from four different cultural backgrounds, to engage the participants in the topic “working together across national borders”. The program alternates between seminar, learning group and coaching sessions; practical orientation, self-reflection and peer group learning supplement the combination of methods used. Prerequisite: at least 2 years of leadership experience. more...

The virtual team – a challenge
Working successfully in and managing virtual (remote) teams
Your colleagues are scattered around the world, you work together on projects around the clock and can only find extremely limited blocks of time to exchange information among one another? Particularly now, in difficult economic times with limited travel budgets, are you increasingly using the latest tools for electronic communication such as telephone or web conferences and e-mail?
An issue that generally cannot be solved with the help of these tools is the question of “differing commitments”. For your colleagues abroad, here in Germany you are the “remote partner”. The commitment towards their own colleagues or customers at their local site, e.g. with regard to meeting deadlines or product specifications, is often much higher than towards colleagues in far-away Germany (or even the geographically distant headquarters). What types of solutions are available for this time-consuming conflict of interests? How do other teams face these challenges? more...

Everyday life in the global village …
Other countries – other solutions!
Should Britons still go to the pub, should Russians prepare for the worst, should the Chinese be confident and should French managers preferably stay at home? While the economic crisis is global and universal in terms of its economic consequences, there are varying country-specific views with regard to the question of how to cope best in everyday life. We have put together a personal impression from our international trainers and consultants for you. more…
