It is the shop-floor where short-time work, crumbling number of incoming orders and changes in processes and procedures have hit most. Today, it is the shop-floors again where economic success and rehabilitation takes place now.
Production managers, master craftsmen, shift supervisors face increased stress; they have to balance growing pressure regarding performance with the management of change and the needs and worries of their staff. This time our newsletter no. 10 will introduce you to two examples of how we support managerial staff in the production in their efforts to steer and motivate their teams.
In the selection and development of junior management more and more companies rely on diagnostic tools – we look closely at the benefits of assessment and development centers and furthermore show you how companies can continuously advance their process and product quality in the face of permanently growing customer requirements.
I wish you inspiring reading!

Development program for master craftsmen at KONE

With their modular Master-Development-Program KONE and CONTUR have developed and conducted a comprehensive qualification measure to strengthen master craftsmen at these times of change.
The project agenda features topics such as ‘role of the master’, ‘communication and leadership’, ‘how to deal with change’, ‘employee development through coaching’, as well as methodological know-how like ‘peer consulting’ skills to secure knowledge transfer and sustainability of the program. more…

Leadership training for shopfloor shift supervisors
A medium-sized enterprise in the chemical sector realized that their ‘old dogs’ supervising the shopfloor needed better leadership skills. Results of polls underlined that superiors as well as employees were not satisfied anymore. One symptom was central: shift supervisors acted more like buddies than like leaders; they had not performed the necessary role change from colleague to manager. Employees did not accept their shift supervisors in their managing role although the latter had undergone trainings how to conduct employee dialogs. You will find a case study here.

Top priority for quality
Quality, nowadays, is an important competitive factor; this calls for a shared understanding of quality regarding all operational services within a company. Producing quality gains a company’s present and future reputation with the customer. To consistently improve quality new as well as established methods and concepts need be applied. Apart from introducing basic strategies to increase quality, our trainings focus on methods of ‘help for self-help’. Six Sigma has proven very effective and led to quantum leaps in process and product quality of many innovative enterprises.
